The annual AJHA Award for Excellence in Teaching honors a college or university teacher who excels at teaching in the areas of journalism and mass communication history, makes a positive impact on student learning, and offers an outstanding example for other educators. An honorarium of $500 accompanies the prize. Deadline for nominations: July 15, 2020.


The Southwest Education Council for Journalism and Mass Communication (SWECJMC) cordially invites you to submit a paper in research, project, or theoretical/conceptual format to be considered for presentation at the 2020 Southwest Symposium to be held at Kansas State University in Manhattan, KS, on October 16-17, 2020. The Council is also accepting abstracts for pedagogy posters. Papers must be received by 11:59 p.m. Central time on Monday, June 15, 2020.


The Sidney Kobre Award for Lifetime Achievement in Journalism history is American Journalism Historians Association’s highest honor. The Kobre Award recognizes individuals with an exemplary record of sustained achievement in journalism history through teaching, research, professional activities, or other contributions to the field of journalism history. Award winners need not be members of the AJHA. Send nominations no later than May 15, 2020.


The Distinguished Service to Journalism History Award recognizes contributions by an individual outside our discipline who has made an extraordinary effort to further significantly our understanding of, or our ability to explore, media history. Send nominations no later than May 15, 2020.
